Summer of My Amazing Luck

by Chris Craddock

Based on the novel by Miriam Toews

Governor General Award winning author, Miriam Toews, burst onto the literary scene with this, her debut novel, and award winning playwright Chris Craddock took a five year “road trip" to bring the adaptation to the stage. Edmonton was so impressed it gave him a 2005 Sterling Award for "Outstanding New Play".

In this hysterically funny new play two young mothers are out to shatter stereotypes - or should they really give a rat's ass? Lucy and Lish are simple women at the mercy of a large, complex and often heartless social safety net and they are hitting the road in a beat up van full of kids and toys.

Renée Iaci (alternating with Diana Swayze) Thomas Conlin Jones ( alternating with Jeff Gladstone) & Daune Campbell will whirl you into "life" at Have-A-Life government housing project, and you'll see why getting out of town seemed like a good idea at the time.

Stephane Kirkland joins the hussy ensemble to direct this “absolutely radical breath of theatrical fresh air.” Gilbert Bouchard, SEE Magazine. Lana Krause (Costumes) & Stephen Bulat (Music) design their way into the rich lives of these women.

    • "Delightfully humorous, subversive and naughtily clever... Brava, Miriam Toews."

I loved it.” The Globe and Mail

“…sharp observations about society’s attitude toward welfare provide satirical sting...especially smart about the way the government treats welfare moms...I feel amazingly lucky to have seen it.” - VUE Weekly, Edmonton

"Shameless Hussy’s mission is “telling provocative stories about women to inspire the hand that rocks the cradle to rock the world.” Mission accomplished, hussies. This one definitely rocks."  - Jerry Wasserman www.vancouverplays.com
